Safe and Convenient Pet Vaccinations in Calgary

At Panorama Hills Animal Hospital, we believe that vaccinations are an essential aspect of preventive care and your pet’s overall health. Vaccines keep our pets healthy and disease free by protecting them from potentially harmful (and sometimes deadly) illnesses. When you come to our animal hospital in Calgary for pet vaccinations, we will also perform a comprehensive examination of your dog or cat to ensure they are healthy enough to receive the shots. We also want you to have the opportunity to talk to us about any concerns you have about your pet’s health.

Kitten and Puppy Vaccinations

Puppies and kittens should be vaccinated every 3 to 4 weeks until they are 16 weeks old. They need to be frequent because vaccinations will be effective at different points depending on the breed and individual pet. Puppy vaccinations begin at 6 or 7 weeks; after the initial round at 16 weeks, vaccinations should resume after one year and then repeat every one to three years. At the appointment, a doctor will confirm the necessary vaccines your pet requires. As your pets ages, veterinarians will determine which vaccines to administer based on lifestyle and medical history. Not every pet needs to be vaccinated against every disease. There are core pet vaccinations, which include rabies and distemper. However, not every pet needs vaccines for diseases like feline Leukemia and Lyme disease.

FAQs

At some time in its life, your pet may be exposed to a serious or even fatal infectious disease like parvovirus, often referred to in layman’s terms as “cat flu”. Having your pet vaccinated is the best and least costly way of preventing disease. Without proper vaccination, he is left unprotected.
