Annual Exams and Vaccinations

At Panorama Hills Animal Hospital, we believe that vaccinations are an essential aspect of preventive care and your pet’s overall health. Vaccines keep our pets healthy and disease free by protecting them from potentially harmful (and sometimes deadly) illnesses. When you come to our facility for your pets’ vaccinations, we will also perform a comprehensive examination of your dog or cat to ensure they are healthy enough to receive the vaccinations. We also want you to have the opportunity to talk to us about any concerns you have about your pet’s health.

Kitten and Puppy Vaccinations

Puppies and kittens should be vaccinated every 3 to 4 weeks until they are 16 weeks old. They need to be frequent because vaccinations will be effective at different points depending on the breed and individual pet. Puppy vaccinations begin at 6 or 7 weeks; after the initial round at 16 weeks, vaccinations should resume after one year and then repeat every one to three years. At the appointment, a doctor will confirm the necessary vaccines your pet requires. As your pets ages, veterinarians will determine which vaccines to administer based on lifestyle and medical history. Not every pet needs to be vaccinated against every disease. There are core pet vaccinations, which include rabies and distemper. However, not every pet needs vaccines for diseases like feline Leukemia and Lyme disease.

Protect Your Pet With Vaccinations

Our goal is to keep your pets as healthy as possible, and we believe that vaccinations are essential in helping us attain this goal. We always recommend administering the core vaccinations for puppies and kittens, and, based on their lifestyle, we may recommend additional shots. At Panorama Hills Animal Hospital, we are a close-knit team that remember and care about each pet and owner that come through our doors. We understand that your pets are part of your family, which is why we take every effort to ensure you are given adequate time and attention to have confidence in the care of your pet. If you have any questions or are curious about the different vaccines we offer, feel free to contact us.

At some time in its life, your pet may be exposed to a serious or even fatal infectious disease like parvovirus, often referred to in layman’s terms as “cat flu”. Having your pet vaccinated is the good and least costly way of preventing disease. Without proper vaccination, he is left unprotected.
